How to know when the spirit world is calling, be it Spirits or Gods.

Another nice discussion to have, for beginners is, how to know or at least begin to recognise that the spirit world is calling, now I am not just talking about the spirit world in terms of the deceased, or your ancestors particularly, but all types of spirits - ancestors, the deities, the angels, any spirits you consider to be real.

Coincidences, or Fate?

A fun debate I enjoy having is whether or not everything fated, or is it merely a coincidence? Many beginners I have had discussions with begin to notice many coincidences, whether this is a falling white feather in a particularly special moment of reflection, I mean, sure that dove just shed a feather, but the timing is just too peculiar when it happens often.

Premonitions are another tell tale sign that your psychic abilities are about to gradually open (or boom), some people do not put any stock in premonitions: “Oh it is Aunt Betty, after all”, stating that they knew before hand it was her calling but did not recognise their psychic ability.

Another, is seeing the same numbers, this does not have to be 111, 333 or 777, as seen in Angel number decks, it can be any numerical combination, and you suddenly are noticing this on license plates, bill boards, the clock – oh boy, the clock, one of my biggest signs! Especially 23:17, I saw this number countless times one year, and even my colleague stated how unusual it is to be so on point with the same time each night you look at your phone clock in work.

Dreams

Dreams, are usually thought of as simply the unconscious processing of your days events and your thoughts, considering the emotional nature of the unconscious mind, it is no wonder that dreams can feel so real. But how do they tie to spirituality and how do you tell if it is contact or imagination? The key differences here are: Definition, emotional impact, peculiarity and remembrance.

According to experts we dream every night but many forget them, if spirit or deity are trying to contact you, it is going to be very, very surreal, you will see, hear, feel, even smell and taste the dream, you will often have a strong emotional reaction and carry this with you when you wake. If your dreams are becoming more and more unusual and rich, write them down to begin your path, and even more so if they relate to topics of spirits, magick or witchcraft.

Déja Vú

This unusual sensation is the feeling and belief that you have been in a particular space and time of day or night, but previously, even though it is your first visit to a new city or country, so how can this possibly be the case? Theories out there attempt to explain this oddity but in spiritual traditions, it is a commonly held belief that it points to a past-life connection, not necessarily a past-life in that country, but that you are once again walking a certain route that you have in the distant past.

So why don't I get this feeling on my daily walks, routines and road trips? Well, it is because they are familiar routes and places, a feeling of coming home too, is very significant. Take note of these so if you decide to do past-life regression someday, you can explore these moments and see if memories arise.

Sensing spirits

Another tell tale sign is quite an obvious one, you are becoming more psychically aware and are beginning to see apparitions, you are beginning to foresee the future, and perhaps, at times quite unsettling, sensing spirits. This can provoke an immediate and negative emotional response, but my advice is if you can sense a presence, perform a simple prayer of protection and proceed with your activities and tell the spirit you do not wish to communicate at this time – unless of course you are newly psychic and wish to do so, safely.

Contemplating more often your lost loved ones

This key point ties in to seeing spirits, or a longing for ancestors passed. We all reminisce, both Witchy and non-Witchy folks and it does not always mean you are having a spiritual awakening, but if your ancestors keep coming to mind, you can feel their gentle touch on your shoulder, or if you are like me you often smell your late Nan's very, very strong perfume. I simply acknowledge them and say: “Hi, Nan”. And keep it short and sweet if I sense it is purely a “Hey, just checking in” kind of vibe.

Feeling a strong lure to psychic events

You may have a new attraction to divinatory tools such as crystal balls, tarot cards and other methods to help you forecast the future or look deeper into subtle matters. We all have awareness of these things but when that desire comes over you for the first time, it is often an indicator that you will benefit from these tools, it could be your soul recognising that “Now is the time”, or it is your spirit guides and ancestors giving you a gentle nudge.

Wanting to undertake paranormal activity nights

Over the passed 20 years or so here in South Wales, paranormal events have exploded in popularity, which is great to see as it demonstrates an open-mindedness from the public about activities that are not mainstream. I, myself, have been to some paranormal activity nights to help enhance my education on the matter when I was a beginner. Providing that the hosts and guests are polite and respectful to the will and character of the deceased persons that are present on the land, or building, then it is a good experience and I do encourage such exploration and education with the appropriate individuals who have experience and integrity.

The magnetism of the Craft is getting even stronger

A final point I wanted to make, that has been previously mentioned, is that you will have a new sense of attraction to the Craft, to always have an awareness of the surface of something and then to feel like you are being drawn to it, is often a sign that has a purpose to it, something important for your growth or something that you need at that time. A sudden need to go to a beach, a sudden desire to socialise, these emotional impulses are normal but to feel the call of the Gods and Goddesses, it sure is unique and beautiful, even more so when you answer that knock.
