Centring your focus

Centring is a concept that falls under the category of what I call energy hygiene, it relates less to cleansing of the mind and personal space, but the restoration of our focus from wherever it is scattered. All people have brain fog occasionally, or feel scattered and sometimes struggle to focus on the most basic tasks, or perhaps more than one thing at a time.
The things in life for both magickal practitioners and non, that can cause scatterbrain are too much of a stimulating drug such as caffeine or thc, stress is a massive factor, heartbreak can have a serious affect on our mindset and decision making, spiritual practices that raise so much energy that if you do not ground you remain on an energy "high", being burdened by too much responsibility.
So why is this an issue for those learning magick, especially? Because we need to be able to have the utmost focus in order to cast Magick successfully. A half assed spell produces half assed consequences or none at all.
Some simple techniques to restore focus are to:
1. Visualise in the sky high above you the blazing Sun shining down, descending through the light clouds and illuminating the area around you, with each breath in visualise the rays of sunlight slowly moving through you toward the centre of your being until they disappear, and know and believe that your scattered energies are coming back to you helping restore your focus.
2. Ignite a burning candle, and focusing on the flame can help you draw back all of your stray thoughts and impulses, as you remind yourself to focus on one thing at a time.
3. Listening to solo instrument music or the single notes off an instrument can be very centring as you hear each note and feel the vibration moving through the space and yourself.
4. Art is another way to centre as you are trying to re-focus on something as simple as drawing lines or colouring spaces.
5. You could chant a mantra such as "I am centred, I am focused, I am still", as many times as you see fit, or until you feel your focus returning.
6. Inhaling the scent of an Air element based essential oil or plant, for me I find Lavender and Lemongrass are amazing to help clear my mind and re-focus my attention on the here and now.
These are just some ways that you can return to the here and now, especially if you often get lost in thought and lose your main focus. Give one of these a go next time you feel spaced out.
Blessed Be. XxX
